Cap Bolt (Special Fine Thread) — A bolt with a hexagonal socket in a cylindrical head.
Tightening is performed using a hex bar wrench (Allen wrench). Although classified as a bolt, it is most commonly used without a mating nut.
It is also known as a cap screw or socket screw. Box spanners and wrenches used to tighten hex bolts require working space around them, whereas a hex bar wrench requires no such space.
For this reason, the use of hex socket head cap screws enables work in confined spaces and contributes to the miniaturization of machinery.
Due to their appearance, they are also increasingly being used for decorative purposes.
