This is a bolt with a hexagonal socket in a cylindrical head.
A hex key (Allen wrench) is used for tightening. Although classified as a bolt, it is in most cases used without a nut.
It is also known as a cap screw or socket screw. Open-end spanners and wrenches used to tighten hex bolts require working space around them, whereas a hex key requires no such space.
For this reason, the use of hex socket head cap screws enables work in confined spaces and contributes to the miniaturization of machinery.
Due to their appearance, they are increasingly being used for decorative purposes as well.
